Jayshawn D. Gonzalez has filed a lawsuit against David M. Koenig and The City of Chicago in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois under case number 24-cv-3570 on May 2, 2024. The plaintiff alleges that his civil rights were violated when he was unlawfully detained and physically assaulted by the defendant, who was acting as a police captain at the time of the incident.

Gonzalez, represented by Ed Fox & Associates, Ltd., claims that on September 16, 2023, Koenig struck him in the face without legal cause while detaining him with assistance from multiple officers from the Chicago Police Department (CPD). As a result of this alleged assault, Gonzalez suffered significant injuries including loss of liberty, invasion of privacy, humiliation and indignities, along with great mental, emotional, and physical pain.

The plaintiff seeks judgment for general damages including emotional distress in an amount yet to be ascertained. He also demands special damages and attorneys’ fees pursuant to Section 1988 of Title 42 of the United States Code or any other applicable laws.
