Chicago offers amnesty program for certain back-due taxes through Dec. 31

The City of Chicago has offered a Tax Debt Amnesty Program allowing city taxpayers a chance to avoid interest and penalties on certain unpaid taxes if the outstanding debt is brought up to date by Dec. 31.

Families of victims of a fiery oil-fueled train derailment and explosion that claimed 47 lives in a town on the eastern edge of Canada’s Quebec Province will need to press their wrongful death claims in federal court, after lawyers for Canadian Pacific Railway and other corporate defendants asked to transfer cases from local to federal jurisdiction.

Maker of Aroma Turkish style coffee sues competitor over alleged knockoff product, infringed trademark

A Chicago area coffee roaster which roasts, grinds and distributes Aroma-brand Turkish-style coffee has sued an Illinois competitor for allegedly selling counterfeit versions of the coffee it sells to consumers and restaurants, as well as violating the company’s trademark and trade dress, particularly Aroma’s distinctive blue and white coffee can.
