A Cook County woman has sued a hospital, medical practice and doctor, alleging medical negligence.

Deborah Ludvigsen filed a lawsuit June 2 in Cook County Circuit Court against Silver Cross Hospital, Parkview Orthopaedic Group and Dr. Chintan S. Sampat, citing negligence in 2013.

According to the complaint, on May 12, 2013, Ludvigsen was a patient at Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox, where she had undergone spinal surgery a month prior. The suit says diagnostic tests showed leakage of spinal fluid, and Ludvigsen underwent additional surgery the same day to correct the condition and repair injury to the dura.

The suit states hospital staff and all defendants: failed to properly monitor the patient’s condition following surgery; failed to diagnose and treat her persistent pain, including headaches, back pain and leg pain; and improperly managed a lumbar drain. The grievance maintains Ludvigsen suffered severe and permanent injuries, conscious pain and suffering, hindrance from attending to everyday duties and medical expenses.

Ludvigsen seeks actual damages in excess of $50,000, plus and attorney fees and costs. She is represented by attorney Martin Lucas of O’Connor & Nakos in Chicago.

Cook County Circuit Court case number: 2015L0004831.
