A Cook County woman is suing Chicago and its public transportation branch, alleging a sidewalk abnormality caused an accident.
Carmen Lopez filed a lawsuit June 8 in Cook County Circuit Court against the city of Chicago and the Chicago Transit Authority, alleging negligence in an 2014 accident.
According to the complaint, a sidewalk near the Blue Line CTA elevated train entrance at the corner of Milwaukee Avenue and Kedzie Avenue in Chicago was defective due to substantial elevation change between concrete slab portions of the walkway. The suit says the condition was a tripping hazard and the defendant should have known of the danger and warned the plaintiff of the existing condition..
The suit says on Aug. 15, 2014, Lopez tripped and fell on her way to the Blue Line train. The complaint alleges improper sidewalk management and maintenance, and failure to inspect and repair the surface anomaly. The plaintiff cites external and internal injuries, pain and anguish and medical expenses.
Lopez seeks damages in excess of $50,000, attorney fees and costs. She is represented by attorney Jeffrey Jordan of O’Connor & Nakos in Chicago.
