A Cook County woman filed suit against a property management firm and an elevator inspection business claiming injuries in a 2013 elevator accident.
Sheila Ann Jackson brought a complaint against Imperial Realty Co. and Thompson Elevator Inspection Service Inc. of Chicago on June 17 in Cook County Circuit Court, alleging professional negligence in the June 2013 incident.
According to the filing, Imperial managed a multistory office building located at 1701 South First Ave. in Maywood; Thompson maintained and/or inspected the building’s elevator system.
The suit states that the elevator doors closed on the plaintiff as she entered the elevator on or about June 19, 2013, causing physical injuries, pain and suffering, mental anguish, loss of earnings and earning capacity, disability and loss of a normal life.
The plaintiff maintains that both defendants were negligent by allowing the premises to remain in an unsafe condition, failing to post warnings to the public, including the plaintiff, of the elevator’s purportedly dangerous condition, and failing to follow inspection policies and procedures.
The plaintiff seeks damages in excess of $50,000 plus attorneys’ fees and costs. She is represented in the case by the Law Office of Andrew S. Kryder in Chicago.
