Woman sues over injuries suffered while being transported to hospital

A woman is suing a driver and a transportation services company for injuries she suffered while being transported to the hospital.

Lori Swerdlow filed a complaint June 26 in Cook County Circuit Court against Cook DuPage Transportation Co. Inc., an unknown operator, First Transit and Pace Suburban Van Division.

On June 26, 2014, Swerdlow was picked up for transport to Highland Park Hospital by the defendant at his work, the Howard El Stop at 7519 N. Paulina St., Chicago., according to the lawsuit.

As the vehicle was heading west on Interstate 94, near Touhy Avenue, the driver collided with another vehicle, the lawsuit states, which caused Swerdlow, who was unrestrained, to collide about interior of the van.

The defendant driver is cited with failing to operate at a safe speed, sound the horn, obey traffic control devices, stop at a red light, have adequate brakes, yield the right of way, avoid a collision, keep a proper lookout, keep the van under control, properly restrain the passenger, load him with disability devices, follow emergency procedures, and complete a safety program. The other defendants are cited with failing to adequate train their worker and ensure he or she was knowledgeable about safety, had completed a safety program and knew how to secure passengers.

As a result, the lawsuit states, the plaintiff suffered injuries, pain and suffering, and medical costs.

The plaintiff, citing negligence, seeks damages in excess of $200,000, plus costs. He is represented by Jason H. Sherwood of the Sherwood Law Group LLC in Chicago.
