A dentist is being sued by a patient for unnecessary dental work.

Daniel I. Giudice filed a complaint June 24 in Cook County Circuit Court against Dr. Thomas R. Gibbs. On June 23, 2013, Giudice was treated by Gibbs, a dentist. He is cited for "performing unnecessary dental work that injured and compromised the integrity of plaintiff's existing natural teeth, as well as prior existing dental work and modifications thereby setting in motion a series of events leading to irreversible injury of plaintiff's teeth, gums, roots and bone," the lawsuit states. Gibbs also is cited for negligence and carelessness for failing to provide adequate care; monitor Giudice's condition; and exhibit care for Giudice's well-being.

As a result, all of the work done by Gibbs allegedly had to be redone, causing pain and suffering, diminished quality of life, and medical expenses.

The plaintiff, citing dental malpractice, battery and fraud, seeks damages in excess of $100,000, plus costs.

The plaintiff is self-represented.
