Midland Orthopedic Associates sued over doctors' alleged negligence

A woman is suing her doctor for negligence, claiming he used improper tools for surgery.

Karen Wood filed a lawsuit Oct. 30 in Cook County Circuit Court against Dr D. Dirk Nelson and Midland Orthopedic Associates SC, citing medical negligence.

According to the complaint, on Feb. 1, 2012, Wood underwent surgery with Nelson at Midland Orthopedic Associates. Wood alleges that Nelson breached his duty of care by attempting a revision total knee arthroplasty without proper tools and planning, causing injury.

Wood is seeking damages in excess of the jurisdictional limit. She is being represented in the case by attorney Robert F. Geimer of Tomasik Kotin Kasserman LLC.
