Loyola University Medical Center sued for medical malpractice

Loyola University Medical Center is facing suit over claims it provided inadequate medical care, causing a subarachnoid hemorrhage.

Ralph Dicapua, individually and as guardian of the Estate of Karen Dicapua, filed a medical malpractice lawsuit Nov. 8 in Cook County Circuit Court against Loyola University Health System, Loyola University Medical Center, Loyola University Physician Foundation and Dr. William W. Ashley Jr.

According to the complaint, Karen Dicapua was admitted to Loyola's emergency room on Dec. 30, 2011 ,after undergoing a craniotomy on Nov. 10, 2011. Dicapua claims Karen suffered a ruptured aneurysm resulting in a massive subarachnoid hemorrhage as a result of the defendant's negligence.

The suit states Karen has sustained permanent damage to her brain resulting in severe physical and cognitive impairments.

Dicapua is seeking damages in excess of the jurisdictional amount and is being represented in the case by Matthew M. Gannon of The Healy Law Firm.
