Insurance company sues man accused of starting fire

An insurance company is suing a man believed to have started a fire that damaged a tavern.

U.S. Insurance Company of America filed a lawsuit Nov. 27 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Marquette Bank U/T 153331, also known as the estate of George S. Koemberos, Thomas Forrest and Standard Bank and Trust Co., as trustee of Thomas Forrest Trust.

According to the complaint, a fire started in Forrest's apartment on Jan. 5, 2013 and spread to surrounding premises, including Duffy's Tavern Inc., doing business as Clown's Alley, which the plaintiff insured.

Forrest is accused of negligently using and failing to properly extinguish smoking materials. The Marquette Bank defendant is accused of negligently leasing its premises.

The insurance company is seeking more than $38,000 in damages, plus costs of the suit. It are represented in the case by attorneys Andrew K. Miller, Jennifer A. Kunze and Elizabeth A. Boratto of The Miller Law Group LLC.
