By Joel Brakken | Jan 17, 2014

South Shore Hospital, Alden-Princeton Rehabilitation and Health Care Center and a doctor are being sued for medical malpractice.

The estate of Adella Johnson, by and through special administrator Roland Johnson, filed a lawsuit Dec. 10 in the Circuit Court of Cook County against Dr. Ram Thawani, South Shore Hospital Corp., Alden-Princeton Rehabilitation and Health Care Center Inc. and Advocate North Side Health Network, doing business as Advocate Illinois Masonic Hospital, citing wrongful death and survival actions and respondeat superior.

According to the complaint, Adella was a resident at Alden-Princeton Rehabilitation and Health Care Center for years prior to her death. Johnson claims that at the end of 2011, Adella was transferred to South Shore Hospital where she received care from Thawani.

He alleges that as a result of the defendants' negligence, Adella suffered from an allergic reaction, sepsis, septic shock, infected pressure ulcer, Stevens-Johnson Syndrome and dehydration, injuries that ultimately lead to her death on Dec. 20, 2011.

Johnson is seeking $50,000 in damages and is being represented in the case by attorney Marc D. Alberts of The Law Office of Marc D. Alberts P.C.
