Accountant sued by business owners over income tax return

By Ben Hart | Feb 5, 2014

Area business owners are suing their former accountant over claims their income tax returns were filed incorrectly.

Elias Giannakopoulos, Mary Giannakopoulos, Business Keys LLC, Superious Elite LLC, Beverly Pizza Inc. and Food Is Pleasure Inc. filed a lawsuit Jan. 27 in the Cook County District Court against George R. Schletz & Co. and Thomas Schletz, citing breach of contract and negligence.

According to the complaint, the defendants prepared the plaintiffs' income tax returns for the years 2010 and 2011. They claim the defendants failed to properly file their tax returns, resulting in the hiring of another accounting firm to fix the mistakes made.

The plaintiffs also contend they are now at higher risk for an audit.

They are seeking damages in excess of $50,000, as well as interest and further relief, and are being represented in the case by Chicago attorneys Adam J. Glazer and David S. Makarski of Schoenberg Finkel Newman and Rosenberg LLC.
