Seven doctors practicing medicine in Indiana are suing Barnes & Thornburg and two of its lawyers, claiming they gave them false information and bad advice.
Drs. Asim Chughtai, A.J. Pampalone, Bryan Waldo, Steven Mischel, Marisela Varela, David Ashbach and Kristoph Giricz, individually and together on behalf of Nephrology Specialists P.C., filed a legal malpractice lawsuit March 6 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Barnes & Thornburg LLP, Laura D. Seng and Nelson J. Vogel Jr.
The law firm's website lists Seng as a partner and Vogel as of counsel in its South Bend, Ind. office.
The plaintiffs claim they were given misinformation by the defendants regarding their former practice's non-compete provisions. The suit states the defendants advised the plaintiffs they were not violating this provision in leaving the facility to practice medicine at another office, when in fact there was a non-compete clause in the plaintiffs' contracts.
As a result of the defendants' alleged negligence, the plaintiffs claim they have incurred legal fees and expenses in excess of $1 million and have been denied bonuses and other compensation in excess of $1.2 million.
The plaintiffs are seeking damages in excess of $2.2 million. They are being represented in the case by Chicago attorneys Ryan S. Zeller of Zeller Law LLC and Jefferey O. Katz of The Patterson Law Firm LLC.
