A Chicago nursing home is being sued by a man who claims its negligence led to his mother's death.

David Wheeler, as administrator of the Estate of Annie Armstead, filed a lawsuit on April 4 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Lakeshore Healthcare and Rehabilitation Centre LLC, citing negligence and wrongful death.

According to the suit, Armstead was a resident at the defendant's facility at 7200 N. Sheridan Road in Chicago, where she required an I.V. for her nutrition, hydration and medication, as well as supervision and extensive assistance to prevent pressure ulcers.

Wheeler claims Armstead's I.V. was removed and not reinserted, which resulted in dehydration, deprivation of calories and medicine, as well as overall health deterioration. He also alleges Armstead suffered from pressure ulcers that were deliberately hidden from his view.

According to the suit, the injuries Armstead sustained as a result of the defendant's negligence contributed to cause her premature death on Jan. 22, 2011.

Wheeler is seeking damages in excess of $50,000 and cost of the suit. He is represented by Chicago attorney Edward M. Rubin of Rubin Machado and Rosenblum Ltd.
