Woman accuses Pace of disability discrimination, unlawful termination

A Belvidere woman is suing her former employer, claiming she was unlawfully fired.

Stella Johnson filed a lawsuit April 29 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Pace Suburban Bus Service, citing disability discrimination, retaliation and unlawful termination.

Johnson claims she worked for the defendant as a Citrix Systems administrator and performed the essential functions of her job despite her disabilities.

The suit alleges Johnson was injured on the job, which required her to take a few months off, and when she returned, doctor's orders limited the weight she could lift. She claims Pace then refused to cooperate with a doctor performing an exam it required, even though it failed to inform Johnson or her attorney when the exam was scheduled, resulting in her unlawful termination Dec. 21, 2012.

Johnson is seeking damages for lost salary and benefits in excess of $100,000 and compensatory damages in excess of $100,000. She is being represented in the case by attorneys at Goldman & Ehrlich.
