A Cook County business man is suing over claims he was unlawfully locked out of the building he was leasing from a management company.
Brandon Johnson, the owner of Spanky's Grill in Chicago Heights, filed a lawsuit May 23 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Steven Duckett, A.W. Green Management and IBT Holdings LLC, citing breach of contract.
According to the suit, Johnson signed a three-year lease with the defendants starting on May 1, 2011 for property at 190 S. Halsted St. in Chicago Heights.
He claims the defendants have unlawfully dispossessed Johnson of the property on July 13, 2013, keeping him from his business, equipment and the subsequent income he would have received.
As a result of the defendants' alleged conduct, Johnson contends he has suffered damages of $60,240 in the loss of his personal property and an estimated loss of $78,211.47 in profits between July 13, 2013 and April 29.
Johnson is seeking damages in excess of $40,000, attorney's fees and court costs. He is being represented by Chicago attorney Charles Silverman of Charles Aaron Silverman P.C.
