A Cook County woman is suing over claims her daughter is being treated for post-traumatic stress disorder after being accused of shoplifting at a Walgreen's store.

Ryan A., a minor by and through her mother Rosalind Walker-Atkins, filed a lawsuit June 2 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Walgreen Co. and John Doe 1, an employee whose name is unknown.

According to the complaint, Ryan was at the Walgreens on South Halstead Street in Chicago on Feb. 17, 2012, when the then-10-year-old was prevented from exiting the store and forced to empty her pockets by an employee.

Ryan claims the employee searched her despite not having any store property in her possession and failed to make a reasonable attempt to release her to her parents. The suit alleges the employee was verbally aggressive and embarrassed her during the incident, leading to a post traumatic stress disorder diagnosis.

The defendants are accused of negligence, intentional infliction of emotional distress, false imprisonment, invasion of privacy, willful and wanton conduct and negligent training.

Walker-Atkins is seeking more than $50,000 in damages on each of the suit's six counts. She is being represented in the case by attorney Daniel L. White of Legacy Law Group Ltd.
