Baby shower attendees accuse barbecue joint of giving them food poisoning

An Evanston restaurant is being sued by a group of people who claim they got food poisoning after eating food at a baby shower.

Edward White Jr., Esmerald White, Terrance Wimberly, Estella Arciniega, Vivian Bar, Kari Denwiddle, Angelique Denwiddle, Naomi Laboy and Johnation Shaw filed suit June 2 in Cook County Circuit Court against Hecky's Barbecue.

According to the complaint, Edward White purchased food from Hecky's on April 17, 2011 for a baby shower attended by the other plaintiffs. After consuming the food, the plaintiffs allege they became ill with food poisoning and experienced severe pain and discomfort.

The suit accuses Hecky's of being negligent by preparing and selling poisonous food.

Each plaintiff is seeking damages in excess of $50,000. They are represented by attorney Steven B. Harris.
