Jogger hits cyclist with suit over alleged collision on Lake Shore Drive

By Matt Russell | Jun 18, 2014

A cyclist is being sued after allegedly colliding with a jogger.

Gerilyn Alfe filed suit June 12 in Cook County Circuit Court against James Lentz.

According to the complaint, Alfe was jogging on July 4, 2009 along Lake Shore Drive near its intersection with Fullerton Parkway in Chicago. During the plaintiff's jog, the suit states Lentz was riding his bicycle northbound on Lake Shore Drive when he collided with Alfe.

Alfe accuses Lentz of operating his bicycle without keeping a sufficient lookout for people on the roadway, failing to keep his bicycle under control at all times, failing to slow or stop his bicycle to avoid the collision, riding his bicycle at a speed which was greater than reasonable in light of pedestrian and bicycle traffic and not keeping his bike in the bicycle lane.

Alfe is seeking damages in excess of $50,000, plus costs and any other relief the court deems just, and is being represented by Chicago attorney Anthony E. Blumberg of Anthony E. Blumberg & Associates LLC.
