Cylist slaps driver, passenger with suit over collision with car door

A bicyclist is suing over claims he was injured when he was struck by a car door while riding on Western Avenue.

Joel N. Galindo filed a lawsuit June 16 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Dionne and Dewayne Leaks and Valery Oblesby.

Galindo claims he was riding a bicycle northbound on Western Avenue in Chicago on June 18, 2012, when Oblesby, a passenger in a vehicle, opened the car door that collided with his bike.

According to the suit, Dewayne Leaks was operating the vehicle, owned by Dionne Leaks, at the time of the incident. The defendants are accused of negligence and failing to operate the vehicle in a safe manner.

Galindo is seeking more than $50,000 in damages and is being represented in the case by attorneys at The Vrdolyak Law Group LLC in Chicago.
