Dinizulu

Rush University Hospital is being sued by a patient who claims he had to have a surgery to correct with complications caused by an intubuation performed during a procedure.

John Walton filed a medical malpractice lawsuit June 10 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Rush University Hospital and University Anesthesiologists S.C. The suit names Drs. Michael Chen and Megan Shanks as respondents in discovery.

According to the complaint, Walton went to the defendant for health complications with an abnormal connection between his arteries and veins. He claims he underwent surgery on Aug. 18, 2012 and had to be intubated.

The defendant allegedly noted in Walton's files that he had a sore throat, tracheal tenderness, hoarse voice, difficulty swallowing and a productive cough. Walton claims the defendants failed to diagnose him with complications from the intubation, namely a narrowing of the trachea that required a corrective surgery.

He is seeking damages in excess of $50,000, as well as court costs, and is being represented in the case by Chicago attorney Yao O. Dinizulu of Dinizulu Law Group Ltd.
