Suit: Bus driver didn't pull up to curb, causing passenger to fall into pothole

Cta

A woman is suing the city's transit authority, claiming she fell into a pothole stepping off a bus because the driver didn't pull up to the curb.

Sherelle Williams filed a lawsuit July 30 in the Cook County Circuit Court against the Chicago Transit Authority, alleging  negligence.

Williams claims she was injured on Aug. 19, 2013, when the driver of the bus pulled up to the stop at 73rd Street and Western Avenue, but did not pull up to the curb. She alleges she fell into a pothole stepping off the bus and the driver drove away.

She accuses the Chicago Transit Authority, through its employee's actions, of failing to properly operate the bus, observe passengers disembarking, warn her of a potentially dangerous condition and assisting and/or contacting emergency services to help her.

Williams is seeking more than $50,000, plus costs, and is represented by attorney Jeffrey S. Deutschman of Deutschman & Associates P.C. of Chicago.
