Man accuses Sawtooth Restaurant employees of pushing him down stairs

A man is suing the owners of a West Loop restaurant, claiming he was pushed down a stairwell by employees at a New Year's Eve party in 2012.

Fitsum Tilahun filed a lawsuit Sept. 18 in Cook County Circuit Court against Sawtooth Restaurant LLC, doing business as Sawtooth Restaurant & Lounge. His suit includes counts alleging battery, assault, negligence and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

According to the complaint, Tilahun was at a New Year's Eve celebration at Sawtooth Restaurant on West Randolph Street on Dec. 31, 2012, when he claims the restaurant's employees verbally threatened him, ordered him to leave the premises and then pushed him down a stairwell before he could do so.

Tilahun contends he sustained injuries in the alleged incident and is seeking more than $50,000 in damages. He is represented by attorney Rahsaan A. Gordon of Law Offices of Rahsaan A. Gordon in Chicago.
