An employee for AT&T is suing over claims she was injured on a walkway outside her work when the overhead lights allegedly went off while it was still dark outside.

Phyllis Radney filed a lawsuit Oct. 29 in the Cook County Circuit Court against AT&T Services Inc., AlliedBarton Security Services, Harper College, and an unknown property manager and record title owner.

According to the complaint, when Radney arrived at the parking lot for her employer, AT&T, on Oct. 29, 2012, the lights for the parking lot and the walkway leading to the building on Lakewood Boulevard in Hoffman Estates were still on.

Radney says that at 5:45 a.m., while it was still dark and as she walked from the parking lot to the building, the lights went off, causing her to trip on the uneven sidewalk and fall, sustaining injuries to her left shoulder, left leg, back and hand.

The suit states AT&T Services was leasing a portion of the building from the unknown record title owner, and one of those parties subcontracted AlliedBarton to provide security services to the premises and an unknown property manager. It also states Harper College had purchased or was planning to purchase the premises at the time of the incident.

The defendants are accused of being negligent by failing to maintain the sidewalks and provide proper lighting.

Radney is seeking more than $30,000 in damages and is represented by attorney Robert P. Groszek of Groszek Law Firm in Chicago.
