A woman filed suit against Cook County for negligence after allegedly falling on county property.

Vicki A. LaMotte filed a complaint on Nov. 3 in Cook County Circuit Court against Cook County, Path Construction Co. Inc. and Midwest Fence Corp., alleging negligence.

LaMotte alleges that while visiting Cook County Jail in November 2013, she tripped over a sandbag laying against a fence and was injured. She says the area was dimly lit and the sandbag was difficult to see.

She is accusing the defendants of failing to maintain a safe walkway for visitors of the jail during the construction period and claims their negligence led her to sustain injuries.

LaMotte is seeking damages in excess of $50,000, plus court costs, and is represented by attorney Robert A. Langendorf of Chicago.

Cook County Circuit Court case number: 2014L011412.
