Woman sues University of Chicago Medical Center over father's broken hip, death; summary judgment granted to the hospital, defendants

UPDATE: Cook County court records indicate this case was decided in favor of the defendants on Nov. 22, 2016, when a judge granted summary judgment, ending the action.

The University of Chicago Medical Center is being sued by a woman who claims its negligence in the care of her father led to his death.

The lawsuit was filed by Jamila Judkins, the special administrator of Donald Judkins, on Nov. 26 in Cook County Circuit Court, and alleges negligent care by the staff of the radiology department.

Donald Judkins was being helped onto a CT scan table by medical center staff on Nov. 29, 2012, when he fell off the table and broke his left hip, according to the complaint. He was rendered permanently disabled, and died Jan. 19, 2013, the suit states.

Jamila Judkins seeks damages in excess of $30,000 plus court fees on behalf of her late father’s estate. She is represented by attorney Corey E. Meyer of the Law Offices of Meyer & Blumenshine in Chicago.
