Wrongful death suit alleges non-diabetic woman was given diabetes drugs

By Mark Payne | Dec 31, 2014

A man is suing a group of health care providers over claims his wife was treated for a disease she didn't have and ultimately died from the treatment.

Fred Wise, as administrator of his deceased wife Sandra Wise's estate, filed a wrongful death suit Dec. 18 in Cook County Circuit Court against Countryside Care Centre Inc., as well as several other medical groups and professionals.

According to the complaint, Sandra Wise was transferred from Delnor Community Hospital to Countryside Care Centre in Aurora on July 3, 2013. She was allegedly given hypoglycemic drugs while there, despite the fact that she wasn’t diabetic, and was found unresponsive early the next morning with a blood glucose level of 20.

Sandra Wise was then transferred to Presence Mercy Medical where she died on July 10, 2013, the suit states, alleging that her cause of death was hypoglycemic encephalopathy from the incorrect administration of a hypoglycemic drug.

Fred Wise is seeking damages and is represented by Kenneth T. Lumb of Corboy & Demetrio P.C. in  Chicago.

The other defendants named in the suit are: Symphony Countryside LLC, doing business as Countryside Care Centre, Nucare Services Corp., doing business as Symphony Post Acute Network, Symphony Financial Services LLC, Symphony HMG LLC, Shael Bellows, David Hartman, Debra Hartman, Northwestern Memorial Healthcare, Delnor Community Hospital and CDH-Delnor Health System, doing business as Cadence Health.
