Woman accuses medical providers of failing to timely diagnose, treat aneurysm

By Carol Ostrow | Feb 3, 2015

A woman has sued hospitals, medical groups and five individual practitioners, alleging medical negligence during her 2013 hospitalization.

Barbara Champ filed suit Jan. 27 in Cook County Circuit Court against Advocate Health and Hospitals Corp., doing business as Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, Radiologists of DuPage S.C., DuPage Medical Group Ltd., Adventist Midwest Health, doing business as Adventist Hinsdale Hospital, and West Suburban Neurosurgical Associates S.C.; as well as Drs. Marc Spiller, Jonathon Nolan, Elizabeth Smith, Anne Sagastume and Robert Kazan.

According to the complaint, Champ was a patient at Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital between Jan. 18 and Jan. 27, 2013 and a patient at Adventist Hinsdale Hospital between Jan. 27 and Jan. 31, during which time she claims the defendants failed to properly diagnose and treat her cerebral aneurysm.

She accuses the defendants of being negligent in their evaluation, assessment and monitoring and treatment of her, as well as in medication administration, lab work, specialist consultations, testing, communication and imaging studies.

Champ claims she experienced severe headaches, nausea, neck pain and stiffness and suffered injuries, emotional distress, pain and suffering and incurred extra medical costs as a result of the defendants' alleged negligence.

She seeks damages in excess of $50,000 and is represented by William P. McGowen III of McGowen & McGowen in Chicago.
