A man is suing an Illinois company over claims it designed and manufactured an allegedly defective piece of industrial equipment.
Justin Harris filed a lawsuit Jan. 28 in Cook County Circuit Court against Altec Inc., Altec Industries Inc. and Global Rental Company Inc.
According to the complaint, Altec designs, manufactures and sells a non-overcenter aerial device, the type of equipment used on trucks to escalate to trim trees or fix power lines. Harris claims he was in the basket of Altec's device on Jan. 30, 2013, when the boom arm extended on its own and pushed him into overhead power lines, causing injuries.
He claims Altec negligently designed and sold the device and failed to issue proper warnings and instructions on its use. He is represented by attorney Bradley N. Barker of Goldberg Weisman and Cairo in Chicago.
