Chicago diamond wholesaler seeks $40K-plus from Atlanta jewelry retailer

By Carol Ostrow | Feb 23, 2015

A Chicago-based diamond wholesaler is suing a jewelry retailer it claims has failed to pay its more than $40,000 bill.

E.M. Trading Inc. filed a lawsuit Feb. 10 in Cook County Circuit Court against Anglo Holdings Limited Inc., doing business as Union Diamond in Atlanta.

According to the complaint, E.M. Trading sold several unset diamonds totaling more than 11 carats to the defendant between September 2014 and January 2015 for $41,414.78. The plaintiff claims the defendant has refused to pay that amount past due and now owes $43,509.34.

In a second count in its suit, E.M. Trading says it sold a .90 carat diamond unit to Union Diamond on a consignment basis, giving the defendant an opportunity to return the diamond or pay the wholesale value of $2,805.12.

Because the defendant has refused to return or pay for that diamond, E.M. Trading seeks a declaratory judgment for either the diamond to be returned or paid for.

The company is represented by attorneys Matthew Gensburg and Martin Kedziora of Greenberg Traurig in Chicago.
