A late woman's estate has sued, alleging negligence in a construction project led to her death.

Linda Trevoy, as administrator of the estate of Susan Marco Roney, filed suit April 13 in Cook County Circuit Court against Wight Construction Services Inc. and DuPage Top Soil Inc., both of Illinois.

According to the complaint, on June 5, 2014, Wight Construction and DuPage Top Soil were performing a construction project at the Willowbrook Wildlife Center in Glen Ellyn and "knew or reasonably should have known that the temporary support platforms extending into the pedestrian walk way were unsafe and hazardous to persons passing by or near them."

The suit says the deceased Roney came to Willowbrook to bring an injured bird to be rescued and Roney was "caused to trip and fall on a temporary support for the barricade fence which separated the construction area maintained by the defendant from the only public access walkway to the wildlife center."

The lawsuit states Wight and DuPage failed to erect or place barricades to maintain adequate walkways; failed to anchor or support temporary fencing adequately; failed to warn pedestrians of potential danger; failed to place high-visibility sand bags over temporary fence supports; failed to place caution cones; failed to provide an alternate access to the center; failed to erect temporary covers over the barricade support structures to prevent tripping; and were careless and negligent.

The suit says these actions or omissions made Roney suffer injury, pain, suffering, disability and disfigurement prior to her death on June 5, 2014.

Trevoy seeks damages of more than $100,000 each, plus costs. She is represented by attorney Alan Sangiacomo, of the Law Office of Alan C. Sangiacomo of Chicago.
