Son alleges negligence vs. rehab doctor in father's death following surgery

A Cook County man has sued a doctor, his practice and a nursing care facility, alleging negligence.

Victor O’Toole, as special administrator of the estate of Robert J. Cihlar, filed a lawsuit May 26 in Cook County Circuit Court against Dr. Demetrious Petrovas, individually and in his professional capacity, Petrovas Medical Centerm, and Glen Oaks Nursing & Rehabilitation Centre, alleging wrongful death in a May 2013 incident.

According to the complaint, Petrova was providing post-operative rehabilitation care to Cihlar at Glen Oaks in Northbrook in May 2013. The suit says the defendant negligently and carelessly mistreated Cihlar, prescribed improper medications to the patient, and failed to monitor the medication administration.

According to the suit, Cihlar died May 27, 2013, from pulmonary toxicity. The complaint cites loss of society and companionship for his next of kin and heirs, along with loss of pecuniary support and services.

O'Toole, the decedent's surviving son, seeks compensation in excess of the minimum necessary jurisdictional limit, attorney fees and costs. He is represented by attorney Randall F. Peters, of Randall F. Peters & Associates in Chicago.
