A Cook County man is suing the CTA, alleging he was hurled about the interior of a public bus and injured.

Dylan Rice filed suit June 8 in Cook County Circuit Court against the Chicago Transit Authority, alleging negligence in a 2014 accident.

According to the complaint, on June 17, 2014, Rice was a passenger on a public bus southbound on Lake Shore Drive near the West La Salle Drive overpass, and was standing in the accordion section of the bus. The suit states that when the bus came to a sudden stop, Rice was thrown to the floor. He suffered personal and pecuniary injuries, according to the suit.

The suit states the CTA was negligent in its duty to provide a safe passage for the plaintiff. Allegations include failing to keep a proper lookout; maintain a reasonable speed; warn passengers of the abrupt braking; and keeping a sufficient distance from other vehicles.

Rice seeks damages of more than $50,000, plus attorney fees and costs. He is represented by attorneys Charles Romaker and Fernando Bustamante, of The Romaker Law Firm in Chicago.
