Cookcountycourt

A woman's estate is suing over allegedly negligent care at a local hospital prior to her death.

Herschel Gamble, as administrator of the estate of Jerry Gamble, filed a complaint on June 24 in Cook County Circuit Court against Franciscan Alliance Inc., doing business as St. James Health-Olympia Fields; ManorCare of Homewood, Ill. LLC, doing business as Manorcare Healthservices-Homewood; and nurses Tiffany White and Ta-Kia Smith-Watson.

The deceased was a patient of the defendant hospital from July 18, to Aug. 1, 2013. During that time, staff at the hospital were aware that she needed regular repositioning, incontinence care, feedings and hydration, the lawsuit states.

However, Jerry Gamble developed pressure sores, including one on her coccyx, while staying at the facility, as well as urinary tract infections, a PEG tube placement, and sepsis, the lawsuit states.

As a result, the lawsuit states, she suffered injuries that led to a deterioration of her condition and his eventual death on Sept. 6, 2014. She also suffered pain and suffering, loss of a normal life and medical expenses.

The plaintiff, citing nine counts of common law negligence, seeks damages in excess of $450,000, plus costs. The plaintiff is represented by Cari F. Silverman and Michelle Wesley of Levin and Perconti in Chicago.

Cook County Circuit Court case number 2015L006618.
