A Cook County man is suing United Airlines and an airline employee, alleging negligence in a a relative's death.

Carlos Gomez Blancarte, as special administrator of the estate of Jose Apolinar Gomez Blancarte, filed a lawsuit July 22 in Cook County Circuit Court against United Airlines Inc. and United employee Daniel Wehr, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, Wehr practiced careless judgment while operating a motor vehicle owned by United Airlines while traveling eastbound on Algonquin Road in Des Plaines where Apolinar Gomez Blancarte was riding his bicycle on July 13.

The suit says Wehr so improperly operated and controlled the vehicle that he collided with the bicycle, causing traumatic injury to Apolinar Gomez Blancarte. The lawsuit states Wehr fled the scene without rendering aid or assistance, thereby diminishing Gomez Blancarte’s chances of surviving his injuries, leading to his death later that day.

Carlos Gomez Blancarte seeks damages of more than $50,000, plus costs. He is represented by attorney Peter D. Cullotta of the Law Offices of Peter D. Cullotta in Aurora.

Cook County Circuit Court case number 2015L007458.
