A woman wounded by a cab driver while using the crosswalk to cross a local street is suing the driver and his employer.

Laura DeVita filed a complaint on July 29 in Cook County Circuit Court against Salamadin Egal and Zip Cab Co.

DeVita was walking on Clinton Avenue on Oct. 14, 2014, from its west to east curb in a crosswalk at Madison Street, the lawsuit states, when Egal, working as a cabbie for the other defendant, made a left turn from westbound Madison Street to southbound Clinton Avenue and hit the plaintiff, causing her injury, disability, pain and suffering and medical expenses.

The defendants, as driver and his employer, are cited with carelessness and negligence for driving in an unsafe way and failing to keep a proper lookout, keep the vehicle under control, yield the right of way, exercise due caution, honk his horn, and drive at a safe speed.

The plaintiff seeks damages of more than $50,000, plus costs.

The plaintiff is represented by Larry Karchmar of Karchmar and Stone in Chicago.
