A Cook County woman is suing a high school, alleging injuries after she fell on a sidewalk outside the school.

Marilyn Negron filed a lawsuit Aug. 6 in Cook County Circuit Court against Walther Lutheran High School Association Inc., doing business as Walther Christian Academy, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, on Oct. 23, 2014, Negron was walking across the school on a paved sidewalk when she was caused to trip on a "cracked or fractured part" of the sidewalk near the school's entrance that was also in an area where a light was inoperable.

The suit says the defendant was negligent in its management of the sidewalk, for allowing it to remain in a hazardous condition, for letting the light remain unfixed and for failing to provide adequate lighting, warn the plaintiff about a hazard, properly repair the sidewalk and light, and inspect the area adequately.

As a result, the lawsuit states, the plaintiff suffered permanent, personal and pecuniary injuries.

Negron seeks damages of more than $100,000, plus costs. She is represented by attorneys J. Thomas Chute and Nicholas V. DeAgostino of TurcyChute in Chicago.
