Patient sues doctor, alleging sexual abuse

Doctors

A woman is suing a doctor and his employers, alleging medical malpractice and sexual assault and battery.

Judith Kohl filed a lawsuit Aug. 20 in Cook County Circuit Court, Law Division against Housecall Physicians Group of Rockford, Housecall Physicians Group of Illinois, MD@Home Management, Sister’s Home Health Services Inc. and Dr. Charles DeHaan.

According to the complaint, DeHaan allegedly sexually assaulted Kohl while she was a patient at his clinic at 39th Avenue, Rockford, from late 2013 through early 2014, by exposing himself, unwanted touching, forcing the plaintiff to commit non-consensual oral sex and prescribing medicine for sexual favors rather than for medical needs.

The suit says the abuse caused the plaintiff pain and suffering, emotional distress, and permanent injuries requiring ongoing treatment and future medical costs. The lawsuit states the other defendants provided improper supervision of DeHaan and failed to investigate his history of abuse allegations and qualifications.

Kohl seeks damages in excess of the minimum allowed by this jurisdiction, plus legal costs. She is represented by attorney Michael J. Gravlin of the Law Offices of Michael J. Gravlin in Chicago.

Cook County Circuit Court, Law Division case number 2015L008531.
