A woman is suing the controller of a research study following injuries the woman allegedly sustained while a participant in the study.
Velma Anderson filed a complaint Aug. 27 in Cook County Circuit Court against Yi-Chung Pai, alleging negligence.
The complaint states that on Sept. 5, 2014, while participating in a research study titled "Effect of Adaptive Training for Balance Recovery" managed by Pai at the Clinical Gait and Movement Analysis Laboratory at the University of Illinois in Chicago, Anderson fell to the ground during the treadmill training for balance stability portion of the study.
The complaint states that Pai was negligible in his failure to supervise the study, to properly inspect the protective systems, to ensure participants were properly attached to the overhead rail system during treadmill training, and to provide adequate fall protections for participants.
Anderson was injured as a result of Pai's alleged negligence and seeks damages of more than $50,000, plus costs of the suit.
Anderson is represented by Scott B. Wolfman of the Law Offices of Scott B. Wolfman & Associates, PC in Chicago.
