Kreg Therapeutics sued over allegations of negligence

By Robbie Hargett | Sep 3, 2015

A health care employee is suing Kreg Therapeutics over claims it was negligent in its design and sale of certain easy wide bariatric beds.

Ebonist Miller filed a complaint Aug. 24 in Cook County Circuit Court against Kreg Therapeutics Inc., alleging negligence and strict liability.

The complaint states that on Sept. 4, 2013, while employed as a certified nurse's assistant at the Jesse Brown VA Hospital and Medical Center in Chicago, Miller was pushing a bariatric patient in an easy wide bariatric bed made by Kreg Therapeutics when the bed suddenly locked up and would not move.

The complaint states that Kreg was negligent in its design and sale of the bariatric beds, in its failure to properly instruct Miller and others on charging the batteries prior to using the bariatric beds, and in its failure to provide a warning light or indicator to advise users when the bed is about to fail or in need of charging.

As a result of the bed locking up without warning, Miller suffered injuries including herniations to her lumbar spine that required multiple hospitalizations and surgeries, for which she has incurred large medical expenses.

Miller seeks damages of more than $50,000, plus costs of the suit.

Miller is represented by I. Peter Polansky and Adam W. Czerwinksi of Polansky & Cichon, CHTD in Chicago.
