A Cook County railway employee is suing his company, alleging negligence for severe injuries he suffered on the job.

Enrique Garza filed a lawsuit Oct. 5 in Cook County Circuit Court against Norfolk Southern Railway Company, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, on May 23, 3014, while Garza was performing his duties for Norfolk as a locomotive engineer on engine No. 3574 at the Calumet Railyard, 2040 E. 106th St, Chicago, Norfolk neglected to inform the plaintiff that the reverser on the engine was not performing properly and presented a safety hazard.

The suit says, as a direct result of this negligence, Garza suffered diverse and permanent injuries to his head, body, limbs and nervous system. The plaintiff alleges he is unable to work, that he suffered economic losses and will need constant medical attention.

Garza seeks an undisclosed amount in damages. He is represented by attorney John J. Budin of Budin Law Offices in Chicago.
