Parents allege Advocate Hospital, doctors guilty of malpractice in son's brain damage

Brain damage

A Cook County couple is suing three doctors and a hospital, alleging malpractice following the premature birth of their infant son.

Maria and Guillermo Jaquez filed a lawsuit Sept. 18 in Cook County Circuit Court against Advocate Health and Hospitals Corp. doing business as Advocate Christ Hospital and Medical Center, Dr. Mario Sanchez, Dr. Ousama Dallal and Dr. Gonzolo G. Hernandez-Argudin.

According to the lawsuit, on Dec. 29, 2007, Maria Jaquez was admitted to Advocate Hospital for the premature delivery of Peter Jaquez, who remained under the care of Advocate Hospital until May 12, 2008.

The suit says the defendants failed to properly diagnose and treat the infant’s neonatal infection. This infection, the lawsuit states, spread to the baby’s blood and nervous system, causing catastrophic, irreversible injury to the brain and other organs, loss of normal life and continuing medical expenses.

The Jaquezes seek a jury trial and damages of more than $50,000. They are represented by attorney Katrina Taraska of Goldberg & Goldberg in Chicago.

Cook County Circuit Court case number 2015-L-009571.
