Ex-marijuana firm executive seeks $100,000, alleging wrongful termination

CHICAGO – A Prospect Heights man is suing a Denver marijuana business, alleging he was unlawfully terminated from his $50,000-a-year position.

Anthony Baroud filed a lawsuit Jan. 20 in Cook County Circuit Court against Hollister & Blacksmith Inc., doing business as America Cannabis Co., alleging breach of contract.

According to the complaint, Baroud partnered with Cory Hollister and Ellis Smith in November 2013 to launch a company helping clients apply for licenses to grow marijuana. Approximately five months later, the suit says, Baroud’s signed a three-year employment agreement to serve as the firm’s chief technology officer at a salary of $50,000 per year.

In May 2015, the plaintiff says he was terminated for alleged displeasure with his management style, which the suit states violates his employment agreement.

Baroud seeks $100,000 – the payout of the remaining months of his contract – plus legal fees. He is represented by attorneys Carmen D. Caruso, Shane Valenzi, Kristen Guralczyk and Jackie Condella of the Carmen D. Caruso Law Firm in Chicago.
