CHICAGO — A Cook County man is suing Davita Montclare Dialysis Center in Chicago, claiming he suffered a stroke.
Joseph Barbera filed a lawsuit Jan. 28 in Cook County Circuit Court against Total Renal Care Inc., doing business as Davita Montclare Dialysis Center; Dr. Kenneth Kuznetsky; Brian Cardio, a certified patient care technician; and registered nurses Fran Martinelli and JoAnna Eileen Cervanes; alleging medical negligence.
According to the complaint, after Kuznetsky examined Barbera on Jan. 28, 2014, for a kidney disorder, the doctor ordered hemodialysis treatments three times a week. During the first treatment, Barbera allegedly suffered a brainstem stroke, leaving him with speech difficulty, facial paralysis and confusion. The suit claims negligence on the part of the defendants caused his injuries, for which he has incurred costly medical expenses.
Barbera seeks damages in excess of $50,000, plus interest and legal costs. He is represented by attorney James A. Karamanis of Barney & Karamanis LLP in Chicago.
