CHICAGO — A Cook County man says staff at Northwest Community Hospital allegedly damaged his urinary tract with improper catheterization.

Warren D. Dawkins filed a lawsuit Jan. 28 in Cook County Circuit Court against registered nurse Catherine J. Buckwinkler, Dr. Theresa C. Gandor, Northwest Community Hospital and CEP America-Illinois P.C., alleging medical malpractice.

According to the complaint, when Dawkins went to the hospital emergency room on Feb. 8, 2014, Buckwinkler allegedly used the wrong type of catheter and inflated it in the urethra rather than the bladder. As a result, Dawkins claims he was permanently injured and incurred ongoing medical expenses, as well as lost wages.

Dawkins seeks a six-person jury trial and damages in excess of $50,000. He is represented by attorney Elliott H. Robbins of Robbins & Robbins Ltd. in Chicago.
