Guardian accuses Jackson Square Skilled Nursing and Living Center of negligence

By The Cook County Record | May 6, 2016

CHICAGO – A guardian alleges the negligence of a Chicago care facility cased injuries to a disabled man.

Juliette Brown, as guardian to the estate of and person of John Torres, disabled, filed a complaint on April 15 in Cook County Circuit Court against Symphony Jackson Square LLC, doing business as Jackson Square Skilled Nursing and Living Center, alleging that the health care facility failed to administer proper care.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that, between May 21, 2015, and May 28, 2015, Torres was a resident of defendant's facility to receive long-term care and treatment. On or about May 21, 2015, Torres was noted to be at high risk for sustaining falls and skin breakdown, the suit states. As a direct and proximate result of the alleged negligence or careless acts or omissions by defendant's employees, Torres sustained a fractured neck, injuries to his mouth and contracted a stage 3 pressure ulcer on his ankle. As a direct and proximate result, he suffered pain, loss of normal life, disfigurement and medical expenses, the suit states.

The plaintiff holds Symphony Jackson Square LLC responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to timely diagnose his condition, failed to recognize and appreciate his condition, failed to create a proper care plan to address his needs, failed to treat his injuries and failed to transfer him to a hospital after a drastic change in his condition.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against defendant o more than $50,000, attorney's fees and costs and any further relief as the court may deem just under the circumstances. She is represented by Daniel R. McLean of Karlin, Fleisher & Falkenberg LLC in Chicago.
