Woman alleges she was treated by man who was not a licensed professional

Medical malpractice 04

CHICAGO – A woman alleges a health care center employed a man and represented him as a licensed health care professional when he was not.

Elizabeth Karlstedt filed a complaint on July 18 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Physicians Community Medical Center S.C. and Physicians Community Medical Center Oak Forest S.C., doing business as Physicians Cooperative, alleging negligence and violation of the Clinical Psychology Licensing Act and the Medical Practice Act, and unjust enrichment.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that from July 17, 2012, to Sept. 27, 2012, she underwent therapy sessions at the defendants' facility with Scott Redman, who was not a licensed mental health care professional. The suit states the plaintiff discovered this fact in February after news reports of Redman's arrest. The plaintiff holds Physicians Community Medical Center S.C. and Physicians Community Medical Center Oak Forest S.C., doing business as Physicians Cooperative, responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to check Redman's educational and professional background and allowed him to write prescriptions for medications for plaintiff.

The plaintiff seeks judgment against the defendants in an amount equivalent to the value received for services rendered to her. She is represented by Rittenberg, Buffen & Gulbrandsen, Robinson & Saks LTD in Chicago.
