Applewood Rehabilitation Center accused of not properly addressing pressure sores

CHICAGO — An administrator of a deceased woman's estate has filed a wrongful death claim against Applewood Rehabilitation Center, and S.I.R. Management Inc., alleging negligence in nursing home care.

Sherry Matthews, as independent administrator of the estate of Martha Johnson, filed a complaint on Aug. 4 in  Cook County Circuit Court against the defendants, alleging that they failed to provide proper care to Johnson.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that Johnson suffered from pressure sores that contributed to her death. The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible because they allegedly failed to provide immediate and proper treatment to Johnson's pressure sores.

The plaintiff seeks judgment against the defendants in an amount greater than $50,000. She is represented by Margaret P. Battersby Black and Mary K. Volk of Levin & Perconti in Chicago.
