CHICAGO — A man is suing a doctor and medical practice over allegations of negligence and insufficient measures taken to prevent injuries, saying the practitioners inserted a dialysis catheter into his carotid artery, rather than his jugular vein.

Miguel Cisneros is suing medical practice Associates in Nephrology S.C., d/b/a Vascular Access Centers of Illinois,  and Sejal Patel, M.D., individually and as agent of the medical practice. He filed a complaint on Sept. 9 in Cook County Circuit Court against the defendants, alleging that they failed to provide him with proper medical care.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges he suffered the injuries associated with the misplacement of the catheter in October 2015.

The plaintiff seeks judgment against the defendants in an amount greater than the jurisdictional limits of the court plus court costs. He is represented by Kenneth A. Hoffman of Mitchell Hoffman & Wolf, L.L.C. in Chicago.
