Doctors accused of misdiagnosing disorder that turned out to be cancer

By Louie Torres | Jan 10, 2017

CHICAGO — A married couple's lawsuit against doctors Milena Jguenti, M.D., and Jose Velasco, M.D., and Northshore University Healthsystem Medical Group, alleges a woman's breast cancer was misdiagnosed.

Alla Akselrod and Grigoriy Akselrod filed a complaint on Dec. 29, in Cook County Circuit Court against the defendants, alleging that they failed to properly evaluate Alla Akselrod's condition.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege Akselrod has an increased risk of harm from her breast cancer, including the diminished chance of success for its treatment, because of the defendants' negligence. The plaintiffs hold the defendants responsible for alleged failures in diagnosis and communication.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek judgment against the defendants in an amount greater than $75,000. They are represented by Robert L. Fogel of Fogel Law Offices in Chicago.
